Have you seen the movie Concussion? I was wondering, and kind of bothered by Chris Rocks’ comments and jokes throughout the Oscars about black people not being nominated until I saw concussion and realized the reason he was making those jokes. Will Smith did deserve to be nominated, in my opinion. I really wonder why he wasn’t? He did an amazing job at playing the scientist who discovered that the constant battering one gets from football could be lethal and lead to the destruction of a players life after his career has ended. Would You Subject Your Child To This? Knowing that, after his short career he would end up torn, confused, possibly homeless and then dead at a young age?

The football community tried to keep him quiet. I wonder if the NFL had some influence over the oscars? IS that why Will Smith wasn’t nominated? Because it would get extra exposure? I don’t know, and probably never will, but what I do know is that my son will NOT be playing football. I won’t encourage it anyway. I will also show him this film and educate him that this is a possibility if he were to participate in such combative activities.

There are probably hundreds of thousands of mothers in America alone that have no idea the harm football can cause. I hope they see this movie and it prevents this from happening. I don’t think it’s worth it. Would You Subject Your Child To This?

The football industry is a huge multi-million if not billion dollar industry, that does not want to be brought down. Similar to the cigarette industry back in the day, and the animal agriculture industry as well. These big super powers control the information that is vital to our health, so we can make informed decisions about what is good for us, and what we want to support.

I personally don’t think it’s fair to have important information hidden from us in order to make our own choices based on facts instead of propaganda and only what they want us to know.

I’m sure millions of parents would discourage their children from a career in football if they knew the possibilities of the brain damage that can occur as a result of the repeated trauma from the game.

The movie is about “Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy,” but that is the actual syndrome at the heart of the movie: a brain disease found in patients with a history of repetitive hits to the head. Dr. Omalu didn’t discover, or name, CTE as was said in the movie. Scientists have known about this pattern of abnormal brain cells since the 1920s, when it was discovered in boxers, another sport you may want (your children) to avoid. Omalu’s discovery of the link with football was “significant,” though.

Other athletes have had tens of thousands of hits and jolts to the head, but preventing and detecting properly, and then having therapy are the key to keeping athletes safe. Not ignoring that it doesn’t exist because we all like sports, and sports aren’t going anywhere.

I know die-hard football fans will be in denial of these claims, but when you have a pattern of so many deaths, and similar stories of football player after football player, you can’t turn your head to it. It’s just common sense that something is up. Instead of ignoring that there is an issue, which would prevent CTE, acknowledge it and take the proper measures.

I was shocked to hear about Jr. Seaus suicide, because I had just seen him speak at a fundraiser a few weeks before and he seemed so put together and was joking around. After seeing Concussion, it put some perspective on the situation.

This movie really touched me. I’ve never really been into football, but I did go to a Raiders vs. Chargers game once and had fun. After seeing this movie, I don’t think I will ever go to support another game again.
