Remember when we used to wear our worst clothes to the gym or to workout? You know, the ones with all the holes and stains because you were just going to sweat it in it so it didn’t really matter? Well, maybe you didn’t do that, but I sure did, and I did NOT feel good. I felt like a slob and I had no energy to work out. It kind of made me think, “What’s the point?” I then graduated to the typical faded, black workout pants with a loose t-shirt and I still didn’t feel so hot. Once I figured out How To Not Feel Like A Slob While Getting Fit, I felt awesome and worked out even harder, which led to me looking and feeling better than ever. An upward spiral!
Now, I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing old sweat pants with holes or faded, black stretch pants that don’t hold everything together. In fact, I always want to look good when I go to work out. It just makes me feel better and gives me more energy. Do you notice the same thing? Other people must be feeling the same because I’m noticing that all the big brands are now coming out with some amazing workout wear that is fun and beautiful.
Here is How To Not Feel Like A Slob While Getting Fit…
- Wear cute workout wear that is high quality and fits properly. I’m so excited that the new Activewear Collections For Spring 2016 from NYFifth Apparel is out now! With Spring finally here (or just around the corner depending where you are in the country), it’s time to shed our heavy winter coats and trade them in for something lighter like a fleece or sweatshirt to take us to the gym, or let’s face, around town. - Take a shower and use deodorant. Nobody wants to smell your body odor. I was on the phone with my Mom the other day and said I have to go take a shower before the gym and she was surprised. People think to take a shower after the gym, but it’s actually not necessary if you do it before, because you are eliminating the stinky bacteria before it develops. I can’t stand it when I’m working out at the gym and the person beside me stinks to high heaven. One of the main things about working out is breathing. Have you ever experienced this? Can that person not smell themselves? Nothing says slob like bad BO.
- Do your hair. It doesn’t have to be anything special. Just brush it and if it’s long, tie it up. No biggie.
- A little makeup is okay. If you have sensitive skin or normally don’t wear makeup, don’t bother, but if you usually wear makeup… a little natural looking makeup or a little gloss is okay, if that is what makes you feel better. When I look in the mirror I want to see my best self looking back at me. If I look attractive to myself, I feel better, if I feel good about myself I work out harder.
- Clean shoes. If your running shoes are supposed to be white and now they’re a greyish brown color, pop those babies in the washing machine. They’ll come out looking new again. You’ll need to plan for this though because I don’t think it’s a good idea to put them in the dryer. Dirty shoes will make you look like a slob.

I love all of these! I’m not a big gym person but when I have gone, the B.O. smell just turns me off.
Those are all important tips, especially the hygiene part! Taking a shower and using deodorant are musts!

I have some cute workout bottoms but mostly wear old college tshirts on top. I don’t like tight fitting workout tops as I feel self conscious but I do feel like as I’m about to turn 30 I need to stop wearing my college tshirts as much.

Haha, that one about taking a shower is sooo important. I don’t like going out of the house without taking a shower even if it means sweating out in the gym. Also, I would love to dress in cute workout outfits, it makes me feel more confident.

The problem is since we do MMA, we always look like slobs at the end of our training. Literally worthless pieces of clay is what we are no matter how cure our outfit is.
I always try to wear cute workout clothes so that I look forward to putting them on. I always try to avoid showering till after I’m done with working out
I think cute workout clothes is really one of the best tips. Being clean prior to the workout with a shower also helps. And deodorant is a must. You know you’re going to work out and so minimizes the odors is helpful. Some great tips here for sure!
It’s nice to look good. I used to dress up to go to the gym, but at home I stick to sweats and a tee. I should change it up a bit. 🙂

I think I need to do this. My workout days are twice a week with running on the weekends, but I don’t dress the best and like you said, I feel like a slob. So I think I’ll feel more motivated if I look better.

My friend actually has some awesome sports leggings with a cool aztec print and I would like something like that to motivate me to keep fit!
I love that yellow jacket. I try to keep a jacket in the car for post workout just in case I have to run errands or pop into Starbucks!
*sigh* I think I have broken every single one of these at some point. Especially the make-up thing. I really sweat, a lot. So showering before and after is a lot and I dont have time for it. BUT I do like the wearing workout clothes that fit.
Taking a shower is a great advise because it wakes me up.. I go to the gym very early in the morning!
